About the Author

Xola Bomela

Distinguished engineer, researcher, and sustainable development professional Xola B. Bomela earned a Master of Science degree in electrical engineering from Stellenbosch University and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Cape Town’s Graduate School of Business. His extensive background of over 20 years has allowed him to make substantial strides in the areas of water resource management, infrastructure development, and agro-processing, all with an eye toward bettering the lives of those living in rural areas. The book is based on his seminal work on the economics of raw water pricing in the Mzimvubu-Tsitsikamma water management area, and it delves into equitable water pricing approaches to guarantee quality rural livelihoods and environmental sustainability. At Stellenbosch University, Xola has collaborated with prominent scientists on innovative agro-processing projects, such as feeding steer finishers sorghum instead of maize, which is more advantageous for the environment. Publications of his research in esteemed journals like Animal Feed Science and Technology and Meat and Muscle Biology highlight the ways in which sorghum might enhance beef production, health benefits, and rural lives. Xola’s ongoing advocacy for innovative solutions to socio-economic inequities, environmental sustainability, and improving the quality of life in rural areas is evident in his accepted engineering papers, water research, and agro-processing studies. In a wide range of disciplines, including engineering, water resource management, and agro-processing, Xola B. Bomela contributed to groundbreaking research papers that have been published in prestigious journals like IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications, Meat and Muscle Biology, and Animal Feed Science and Technology. His work aims to improve quality rural livelihoods through advanced sustainable practices.
